My partner and I have both been married and divorced before. We have been together for 6 years and live in mostly bliss. Everything about us is blissful, but blended families are hard!
Anyway…
We have decided we would like to get engaged. I had the big romantic proposal and super expensive ring the first time around, I’m not looking for that again. We aren’t quite ready to get married (well, I am but he isn’t yet) due to trauma from the first marriage but we would like to take another step, which we think is being engaged as marriage is what we both see in our future.
Here goes my question.
I don’t want to spend a lot of money on an engagement ring as we are saving to buy a house. I want something that looks classy and can be mistaken for a diamond without the price tag.
So far we have looked at secrets which I thought was okay, they’re essentially cubic zirconias and the lab created diamond through forever yours.
Has anyone had any experience with either of these or have suggestions on other companies? Thanks!

Not personally sorry. But I don't think they do look like diamonds in the ads or on the hands of people I work with. They look like costume jewellery to me. Why don't you look at 2nd hand real diamonds if you're trying to get cut price?
Wait for EOFY sales. I bought myself a diamond solitaire for half price a few years back.
Have you got old jewellery? Take it to a local jeweller and see if they can make a ring for you. I did it with my engagement ring from my ex, had it made into a pendant for our daughters 18th. It cost $750 4 years ago, I had a few things added to it and the jeweller I used is expensive so I don't know if that's a normal price or not but it is cheap for a one of a kind piece with a bit of sentimental value for my daughter. The finished piece was valued at 4000
Would you be willing to try a different stone? You could get a gorgeous ring for half the price of a diamond if you looked at sapphire, amethyst, topaz, garnet etc.
An engagement ring doesn't have to be a diamond, and as you already know- the big ring doesn't necessarily mean the perfect marriage. Get something you think is pretty and you want to wear and please don't worry about 'other' peoples opinion of your ring.
Why not just go completely different and pick the gemstone for the month you started dating or made it official. It is special to you both and you can get bigger gemstone and they can still be a lot cheaper than diamonds
