Pregnancy in mining

Pregnancy in mining

My husband and I both work in mining. I am 8/6, he is 4/4. I'm worried about the risks associated with pregnancy in the workplace. Any other women in a similar position able to give advice? When should I stop working? I will not be going underground while pregnant however the surface has a lot of risks...

Also, after taking 12 months off I'm really not sure if I could go back to 12 hour days 8/6 while having a young child. I love my career but maybe I need to quit the industry for a family?? Has anyone successfully continued to work shift with a family?

Also did anyone experience discrimination when they became pregnant? I am one of only two women on site, so I'm worried about how the guys I work with will behave... They can be quite rough and abrupt sometimes.

I have friends who work shift work but their partners work 9-5 regular hours so they only have to worry about child care for regular business hours. I'd think carefully about returning to work in the same format because without very supportive family it probably would not work. Look at what child care options are available if your both rostered to work.
