Hairdressing price

Hairdressers - how much do you charge for a “trim”? I was charged $65 on top of my colour, treatment etc for a haircut but in my eyes all I had was a trim. Is there a difference between a trim and a cut? I had between 1-2cm’s (no more than 2cm’s) trimmed off.

Now I’m not complaining. I’ve always had the same hairdresser for 15+ years who never charged more than $150. I now pay $300+ which I’ve always been happy to pay for but after the breakdown and realising that’s how much I pay for a “cut” I’m wondering if I question it or whether it is reasonable.

The new price is the new hairdresser as my usual one moved away.

A hair cut and a trim are the same thing. The hair still has to be levelled, checked etc and takes the same amount of time. It doesn’t take less time because they cut less off all over.

It sounds like your old hair dresser was under charging.

Yes, she was as I was a longtime client etc. Like I said, I wasn’t complaining I was just wondering if it was the norm as it seemed a little pricy.

If that is true why is it cheaper for a men's cut?

Men's cuts are very different and typically much faster

$65 is a bit crazy for a cut, especially if you're there for other things. Surely they save money by having one customer come in for 4 different services rather than 4 customers for 1 service each. It would make me want to go somewhere that does a cut, colour, style deal rather than charge for each one separately. But I don't need to, I have had a few bad experiences with hairdressers when I was younger and a few times when my kids were young and it gives me so much anxiety that I have learnt to cut my own hair and the kids hair. I dye it myself and keep it long so it's not noticeable if I stuff it up. I've been to the hairdresser probably twice in the last 10 years!

It was originally $85 but when I questioned the price of my whole visit she said she accidentally did the wrong price but I still find $65 a bit expensive. I had no style cut, just the dead ends trimmed off. I’m blonde so I wouldn’t trust doing my hair at home! that’s great you can do it though. x

Depends on where you are. City prices, totally normal.
Country prices, a little less.
The trim and length part doesn’t save money as previous poster mentioned, but $65 where I am is pricey. It’s usually $40 here, for a full style cut, hightlight and all over colour we pay between $220-280

Small country town. I usually pay $310 for full head foils, treatment, olaplex & trim any dead ends off. This time I only got half a head to try reduce the cost and I still paid $305.

Go in and say you identify as a male. Watch the price drop. A trim for a male is the same as a trim for a female. In fact there is more time spent with neatening up behind ears etc with men. I would be inclined to see if you can find someone cheaper. I had a mobile hairdresser who charged much, much less and found another less known hairdressing salon where she had much lower prices. Sometimes you are paying for the Salon reputation. Also look and see if they do charge differently for trim or if they label everything a cut now. I would specify I only want a trim as I'm trying to reduce the cost at the start and call them out on it if they are overcharging.
