Hey mumma bears
I am just wondering what people do to stop their kids from being wild animals in the car while your driving. My kids 8 & 3 are either laughing or screaming and it drives me insane and can make driving with them so stressful. I wasn't really into the idea of having a DVD player I feel like they'd break it... Our car doesn't have one anyways and I'm not big on the screens in car idea, in saying that if it works for others then I guess I will suck it up and get one. Or are there other ideas??
Thanks so much

I just point blank refuse to drive until they shut up. That means we sit in a locked car for 10 minutes on the side of the road, that’s fine by me.
They get the idea pretty quick especially if you do it on the way to somewhere they really want to go.
My kids get like this. I slam my foot in the breaks if I’m going slow and it’s safe enough. Or I pull over and tell them to get out, they freak out. . I carry my big plastic ladle spoon in the car sometimes and that keeps them quiet 😂 wouldn’t use it but they see it and think I will. Seperate then one in front and one in back. 8 yr old Can sit in front if meets the height and weight I think. Double check. I rang my local police to ask.
I have 4 kids and I learnt to block them out while driving. If anyone else got in the car they were amazed I could still drive with all the racket. If they started fighting or acting dangerously I would park on the side of the road and just stay completely silent staring at them, like a teacher does when the class gets too crazy. Then when they noticed I'm just staring at them I would ask if they are ready? Yes? Let's go. I have never had DVD players in the car but audio stories are brilliant.
This 🙌 and singing
I have 5 kids 7 and under and we live rurally so do a lot of driving. I ignore a lot of the noise from the back. Turn the music up 😂 I don’t tolerate screaming though and the car is stopped until the offender apologises. I’ve also turned around home again due to carry on. We only have DVD players for our interstate road trips and it’s days in the car
I’ll also add that if things are getting a bit much in the back we sing songs, play car games and I always pack food and toys/books for longer trips
I was talking about it the other day I just wonder how many people have had Car accidents due to the insanity. I often put the eldest in the front. Seperate them. My son used to play Lego Marvel on PlayStation and now he thinks that car accidents aren't really a thing, like I don't think he believes how serious they are cu this game makes everything crash and little blocks fly everywhere. He's a tripper, I was even thinking of making him watch ER shows lol.
I stop sometimes, yell alot, have toys, sing, play eye spy, I mean sometimes I just wanna chill the heck out y'know. Kids....sigh
Mine are loud but they know what I say goes while driving. No screaming and no throwing things. I tell them I can crash, it’s very serious. I would just stop the car and refuse to drive them where they want to go until they can behave driving where you need to go.
I've had so many near misses with distracted drivers, people leaning over the back to deal with their kids, people on their phones, people stuffing around with shit on their front seat, I've even seen one idiot applying their make-up while travelling down a moderately busy main road and through a school zone.
Please, just do whatever you've gotta do to make the road a safer place for everyone, if that means DVD players or ipads and pulling over while they're too rowdy, so be it.
I also think your 8 year old is probably old enough to understand that misbehaving or being too loud in the car is dangerous. So I'd be having a very serious chat about that.
You can chat all you like but it’s kids and it rarely sinks in.
But good advice
I have 3 kids so I get the not listening thing😂
Several ongoing serious chats is probably more apt lol.
Yep 😂
I agree he is old enough but he still doesn't really get the seriousness of an accident. I have told him many times but yeh he can't help himself but be silly and annoy his brother which I'm ok with until it gets to squealing and going overboard. It's so bloody annoying
Try laughing, screaming, squealing or whatever it is louder and crazier than them 😂 my kids are mortified by it 🤣
I sing in the car. The more they complain the louder I get! My boys are teenagers now and they still don’t like me singing in the car.
DVD or in car entertainment saved our sanity. My kids are same, I also thought the same as you with DVD in the car…… until I got a car with a DVD!! I’ll never look back now.
