My son is 10 months old and I have tried to read to him several times over the months but he is just not interested. Is there a age in which it changes?
What age do children show interest in being read to?

My middle son is 4 and has only just started showing interest in reading but only occasionally.
I work in a nursery. Most are not really interested until over 14-15 months, and then it is only very short stories (ie. one sentence per page etc). They are more interested in the pictures and turning the pages and not the actual words until then. My 3 yr old has been read to his whole life, and has only really shown an interest in being actually read to in the last 6 months. That being said, there are so many benefits, so don't give up! Even if they are not sitting still or looking at the book, they can still hear you, which is great for their language skills :)
It takes a fair while for them to lay still and listen properly. If it helps, i worked it in to my sons bed time routine around 13 mnths, i would read while he was in his cot having his bottle, then when he dropped the bottle i just read him the book. By 2 he was definitely more interested in the story. And 6 1\2 yrs old, it is still our favourite part of the day.
I've been reading to my boy from about two months old.. He loves it. I guess it just depends on the child.. My one year old can be a handful when he wants to be, but every day we lay on the couch or in my bed and have quiet time.. For at least half an hour. During that time he cuddles into my chest and I tickle his legs and I read him a book :-)
Reposted on the Facebook group too super mum, and hope it helps! :-) xKelly
Thanks Kell :) been trying to read to him every day as I know its good for him but last night we had ripped pages and a head butt so I just wanted to ask other mum's :) active bub won't sit still for 5 mins ha ha
I would try and read to my son on and off but he just wasn't interested until he was about 2 years and three months. He's now one month off three and he adores his night time stories and will bring his books to me during the day too. I was disappointed that he didn't enjoy it and I persisted but he just needed to get to it in his own time. I love now that he "reads" his favourites back to me!!
My 9 year old was never interested until he was around 7 and his sisters liked to be read to. He has lots of other interests, hes just not that into reading/listening. You can still teach him to speak well and learn words by just talking to him a lot during the day. Having a book doesn't make too much difference I don't think.
