My best friend needs some help

Hey guy's my best friend is wanting to get out of her marriage and is feeling stuck! She's been raising her beautiful children and hasn't worked in 10 years and was hoping to get some advice from you all.. would centrelink help her get a job before being on any payments or does she need to be on payments and then they help her out? Thank you all for helping..

In my experience Centrelink don't do a damn thing with regard to getting employment. Even job agencies are poorly equipped to assist most people.

She will be eligible for payments depending on her children's ages, if she has any under 8 she will likely qualify for Parenting Payment Single, plus the Family Tax payments. This info can be found on the Centrelink calculators on the DHS website. With PPS you *can* work as well and you need to report your earnings if you are, but you don't actively have to look for work.

If all are over 8 she will be put onto Jobseeker and have to actively look for work and report job seeking efforts/additional income. She will also receive Family Tax payments which will boost her income. If she is on Jobseeker she will be put in touch with a job agency to "help" but as previously stated I have never found them helpful.

If she's looking at leaving she'd be well advised to ring Centrelink and get info/start the process as it can be lengthy

Centrelink don’t help you look for jobs. They are responsible for payments and they will check your friend is looking for a job.
If the youngest is under 8 she’ll get parenting payment single, over 8 she’ll get jobkeeper.
Centrelink will refer her to another agency who will offer some assistance in looking for a job. I didn’t find it helpful at all though. If she doesn’t find a job eventually she’ll be referred to volunteer work.

Depending on children's ages she could be eligible for a payment. In my experience you have to be on a payment to get referred to a job agency or program.
Parents next program is an amazing program to help mum's get back into work, they helped me immensely to gain full-time employment, they payed for my course and everything I needed including a laptop, uniform and travel money to do my work placement, I have been working for over a year full-time now and don't need Centrelink anymore. You get out of these programs what you put in, alot of people just use these programs so their Centrelink doesnt get suspended but if you actually put in an effort they can help alot.
