IBS and working

Since having my gallbladder removed near 18 years ago. I developed bile acid malabsorption(BAM) (much the same as IBS-D). Ive been in the fortunate position where I have been able to stay at home to raise my 6 my children, whilst my husband worked. I now wish to pursue a career(It will be in pathology due to qualifications) But am I so nervous due to the BAM/IBS. I do take questran lite which helps 80% of the time. I can also take immodium and the alike. But nothing is 100%
How do other working people with BAM or IBS cope/manage?

I have IBS. As long as I avoid foods I know give me hell and I'm never too far from a toilet, I manage. Occasionally if i have a really bad flare up, i may need to take a sick day. A good boss will be understanding too.

I guess it depends what you want to persue though. Something labour intensive, travel heavy or some kind of role that limits your ability/access to use the loo whenever the need arises may not be suitable, so I'd recommend taking those kind of things into consideration when choosing a career path.

Agree with what the above poster has said.
My lovely friend has suffered IBS for years, and often has chronic flare ups when anxious, she now carries a small camping toilet and pop up tent. If the need arises, she pulls over, pops up and pops in!!
The pop up tent isn’t ideal, but it’s a little bit of privacy on the side of the road. And if she hears someone coming, she yells out “I’m having an emergency and I need to deal by myself, please leave”
She’s never had any issues since.
The pop up tent thing just folds down into a quick circle and Velcro’s down.
When you gotta go… you gotta go…
