Contraception - Depo Injection

Hi everyone,

I was just curious to get other peoples experiences with the Depo injections…..

I’m contemplating going back on birth control but I have never been great with taking the pill form and if I could I’d prefer not to go down the IUD or implant path again.

My husband isn’t ready to get the snip yet and I’m not sure I want to rule out a 3rd baby just yet 🤔

Thanks for any advice/experiences you can offer

Depo is the same hormone as the implant, except the timeframe, obviously, and the fact that if it's not working for you, you just have to wait for it to wear off.

Personally, I don't recommend it. It sent my moods spiralling out of control, gave me horrendous stomach issues and there wasn't a damn thing I could do except wait for it to wear off.

Depo was the worst for me. I bled for 5 months straight. Not just spotting. I'm talking full heavy bleeding. Not a single day where i didn't heavily bleed.

But yet it worked well for my sister. No issues at all.

You don't know how ur body will react until u take it. I wouldn't recommend it tho bcoz if its not for you, you can't do anything about it until its ran its 3 month course . In my case the side effects lasted 5 months.

Depo worked brilliantly for me. No period, no babies.
Unfortunately it wasn't until I started seeing a lady doctor that she said it was not great for long term use (I'd been on it by that point for over 20 years). I've been off it now for a few years to get my body back to normal before hitting the big M.
If you're looking for something convenient for a year or two while you make up your mind on number 3 depo could be the one.

I tried the depo - it was 2 weeks between every period, and every period went for nearly 2 weeks and not just spotting but full blown "hello aunt flow" 😅
I actually have the rod in now and maybe see my period for one or two days every 3 months.
I didn't gain weight or get acne from it, but was a bit more moody than usual during the initial 3 months

For baby planning I thought it great as we hadn't completely ruled out an 'ours' baby (that would make 4 kids in total for us; 2 from me and 1 from him). I took the approach, "well it's in for 3 years so we either decide then or if we decide earlier to start trying then it's a conscious decision as I have to go back in to get it removed"

Still have the rod in too because we swing back and forth on who wants a baby and who doesn't 😂🤦‍♀️
