Hi mum, just wondering what the proccess is to get your child assessed for asd? Can I go to the gp and get a referral for an OT straight away or is there a step before? Also can anyone recommend a kind and nurturing OT in eastern suburbs of Vic? Thanks. One very exhausted mumma.

Personally I'd go to a developmental pediatrician. OTs are awesome but have a history of diagnosing one thing (the child misses out on valuable early intervention funding) and then the child is later more accurately diagnosed with ASD and it's too late to access the funding! At the very least have a developmental pediatrician as part of the team you see (you will need them anyway). The GP can refer you directly to the developmental pediatrician, otherwise you may be referred to a multi-disciplinary team to get a diagnosis.
I went and saw a pedistrician and he saw the way my son was acting and he was ready to diagnosis my son then and there with asd but wanted a assessment done so my son was sent for a child . health assessment.team (c.h.a.t assesment thats what it is called in nsw) and if you're child is under 7 they should be eligible for funding through the government
