Runners

Hi! Quick background - I’m 31, weigh 73kg, 5’2, have two kids, 4 and 6 and work an office job. No partner so any exercise I get is with the kids as gym isn’t always available at a time that suits the three of us.

Now, I’m not overly overweight and I do have some level of fitness. However I don’t enjoy squats, burpees etc.

I thought about taking up running as I can do it with the kids on their bikes however at the moment I can only run at a steady pace for about 5 minutes without thinking ‘biscuits, where is that pain coming from’

Now, my question is: if you’re a runner, what are some tips you can give to an amateur? Did you find it reasonable for weight loss? Did you combine it with some weight training/other forms of exercise? I don’t want to lose weight hard and fast, but more be healthier and get fit with it.

Thank you!

It's good for with kids. Mine stay at the park and I do laps of the field. Or they scoot and ride while I run.
There is an app c25k to help you train. There is also a Facebook group to help with questions.

Tip - invest in good shoes if you intend to do it regularly. This will help prevent some aches and pains.
Also add kms or increase speed slowly. Follow what your body is saying to you. You will have those weeks where you are exhausted and your body is saying you need to rest. Rest is just as important too.
I have found running good for maintaining weight. My appetite has increased and also my weight but that’s due to more muscle. I don’t enjoy weight training so rarely do it but they say it’s best to do a combo (weight and running).
