Hi,
I have scoliosis and kyphosis.. I also have 7 bulging disc. 3 in my lower back and 4 in my upper back.
So far I’ve had treatment from an osteopath and I’m seeing a back specialist. I’ve taken cortisone tablets and I’ve had cortisone injected. I’ve also had euflexxa injections in my knee for my back.
So far nothing seems to be working. I’m constantly in a fair amount of pain and I’ve had enough.
I would love to hear from people who have had back surgery.. for either scoliosis, disc bulging or both. I spoke to a friend of a friend today who highly recommends it. Saying it helped her tremendously and she had 1 disc bulge and 1 herniated disc. I feel very nervous just thinking of going down the path of surgery.
From your own personal experience would you recommend surgery? Can you tell me what you had done?, Did it take long for you to fully recover and was it expensive?

Surgery should generally be a last resort.. in the absence of neurological symptoms and severe pain most orthopaedic surgeons will encourage conservative treatment.
Most people have some degree of scoliosis. So depending on your angle etc will change my thoughts.
Disc herniations also vary dramatically from person to person - so it’s not as simple as your friend benefited so you too will..
Have you educated yourself on pain? Have you started exercise rehab? Do you know how to self manage the pain? Have you addressed the psychological aspects of pain?
I think you mean neurosurgeon....
No Orthopaedic surgeons also perform spinal surgery.
I have had my L1 to S1 fused due to a herniated disk which turned in to several in 3 years I’m only 35 years old due to waiting I have nerve damage in my sciatic nerve
I had a partial removal in 2013 and full fusion 2016
This was the best thing I ever did I go my life back once fused and recovery
I get no pain only when it’s cold because I have osteoporosis arthritis but the difference in my life is completely a better and I’m in a better headspace because not in pain along with being able to do everything now with only minor restriction
Get yourself and amazing orthopaedic surgeon who will guid you through this along with rehab
