Getting into the work force

Hello! I'm 30 and a mum of 3 and want to get into the work force after being a SAHM for 13 years. I have no help with the kids so getting a job in school hours is hard. What did those mums that have no help and can't afford to pay after school/before school fees do? I can study but have NO idea what I want to do. This is hard, I feel like no one will employ a mum my age with no help with the kids and no skills or experience šŸ˜”

School hours may be unrealistic for you, I had three school hours jobs but my skills were in demand.
Look into after school care, I’m a single mum (are you?) because it was extremely affordable when I went full time.
If you have a child in HS, can they get the bus so it’s only 2 x fees?

Until October TAFE has some free courses. They are short term ones so 12 weeks, you could smash some of them out to help boost your skills

Can you volunteer at your children’s school? And do a short course? Then you’d have something to put on your resume? Then you could start looking for jobs school hours - they are out there, casual, part time you might want to ask around locally as sometimes word of mouth can help. Good luck!

Cleaning jobs, especially in hotels.
Cafes in industrial areas, open early shut early,
Catering assistants.
Assistant in nursing.
Volunteering at your child's school, there is quiet a few avenues there that could spark an interest.
I'd deffinently be looking into tafe right now, a lot of short courses are free, at least if it's not for you it's not money wasted but a certificate to add to the resume.
Being out of the work force for 13yrs you really need to give anything ago until the ideal job comes along. Employers are more likely to hire someone with a very recent work history.

Before and after school care fees are quite affordable... Have you checked out how much you'll get after CCS?

I spoke with a career counsellor last week as I have been out of the workforce for 15 years and wanted to get a resume done. I was shocked when she told me I have next to no chance of getting a job applying online. Because I have no current work experience she said that it would be highly unlikely that I would even get an interview especially now that unemployment is higher than ever. She told me my best option was to network with family and friends to try an get a job doing anything just to get some experience and my foot in the door. Doesn’t help that my family all live in other states & the few friends/contacts I have are keeping an ear out for me. I have volunteered off and on for over 10 years but she said that just shows I haven’t been ā€œsitting on my arseā€, and although I have studied (degree and certificate) the gap between studying and now is to long which works against me and neither qualifications allow me to work for myself. Being in my early 50’s I worry that I will never work again ā˜¹ļø
