How do I get myself back out there!?
I spent 5 amazing years raising my babies, 12 months studying and still can’t seem to find a job! I live rural, need a day job and I understand COVID has made everything hard... but I’m starting to think I’m just unemployable after too many years out of the game.
What do I do to make myself more employable?

Just keep trying
Employ yourself! Do anything. Do it properly with a n ABN and all that. Then apply for jobs or stay working for yourself if you're successful. Long term unemployed do not get taken seriously by employers, if they can see you are already working they will take you more seriously.
Can you do some volunteer work in the meantime? Sometimes it’s more about who you know than what you know. My husband secured his full time job through connections he made volunteering at our footy club. It also gives you something to put on your resume
It’s hard. I also live rural (QLD) and haven’t worked in over a decade. I have studied and was volunteering up until March (Covid lockdown) and am still trying to find something. I had my resume done by a career counsellor who has tailored it more about my transferable skills but I still can’t even get an interview. Her advice was to network with family (all live interstate) & friends just to get my foot in the door doing anything. Still no luck.
It's the holy grail, that elusive day job we all need because we have kids. If only the world was perfect like that.
I took a night shift factory job.
Yes it was hard and OMG was I worn out by the end of the week but it was what I had available so we made it work. Over the years I've had various shifts, now I set my own hours! As long as my work is done on time I can start and finish when I want to.
I hadn’t worked for 14 years after raising kids. I started volunteering at my kids school tuck shop and then I knew a person who owned a pizza shop and they asked me to work there. I know I got given my job pretty much but small places like that, you never know who’s looking for someone. Drop your resume off at places. Maybe look at doing a course in something your interested in and work from home.
