contraception whilst breastfeeding

Hi there ladies, I am breastfeeding my 14mo and currently taking the mini pill. I don't want to try for another baby until my daughter is 2.5years so I'm looking at a longer term solution as I'm quite forgetful with the pill. I spoke with my gp a while ago and he said the rod would be fine while breast feeding but then he also said there hadn't been much studies done to show the effects on baby. I think I would like the rod but I'd be worried about possible effects on my daughter. I don't really know any other types of long term contraception that are suitable with bfing. I will be seeing the gp about it soon but just wanted to hear from other mums about their contraception preferably that don't give you mood swings! Thank you!

Rod for me caused massive mood swings and loss of sex drive completely. I had it a year and had it removed as it was just horrible. Im not sure on what other contraceptions are safe during bfing but I would NOT recommend the rod. Maybe the injection??

You could look at the Merina it the Nuva Ring. They both have very low hormone doses and the release is localised so less side effects. The Nuva ring looks like a rubber band and you insert if like a tampon and leave in for 3 weeks and take out for one. I loved it, couldn't feel it. I'd just set an alarm on my phone for the day I needed to take it out.

The mini pill failed on me and I fell pregnant when my LO was 8mo and I was still bf. Best to find something more secure.
I think it failed because like yourself I was forgetful and took it late some days.
