Can someone in QLD explain to me how to get married at a courthouse? From what I can gather, you pay a fee (around $400) and bring along 2x witness’s and then you can get married... I wondered how the actual ‘wedding’ goes though. Is it as simple as just walking in, signing a document and then walking out? We’ve been together for 9 years with two kids and we just want to make it official without all the fuss, plus I cannot do PDA 🤮

No you need to lodge forms 30 days before the wedding thats a legal requirement. You go in and book it, sort the forms in time, ans then do the ceremony on your booked time and date.
Sort of more asking what happens in the actual ceremony.
You can choose, they have a room, you can have flowers and wear a dress, invite guests, or you can rock in in jeans, and sign it. There is a declaration you have to read (again you can choose if you want to get it done or do it in ceremonial vows) and you have to sign and have 2 witnesses sign (you bring them or the courthouse may provide them) the whole thing is arranged when its booked and the paperwork lodged the minimum 30 days prior.
It’s a basic ceremony. So you still do the ‘do you take this man/woman’ etc.
You have the option of doing something privately with a celebrant too. My aunt got married sitting around the dining table. They had one meet and great to discuss what they wanted.
We are in Qld. We booked a celebrant and had the ceremony at our dinning room table.
We had our wedding on our 13th anniversary of dating and it was perfect for us. We aren't ones that like attention on us. We had 2 witnesses and our 16 month old son.
The celebrant did all the paperwork for us. We had to have 2 meetings with her before, to sign off on the paperwork. She also gave us options of wording for the ceremony part. It cost us $550 for the celebrant.
You will probably have more of a say with a celebrant then the registry office
