What would you do if you found a lost phone

Hey, my husband and I are divided in our opinions... I found a phone on the beach this evening, it was starting to get dark so the best thing I thought I could do was take it and either wait for it to ring or post that I had found it on a local Facebook page I was sure this was the absolute right thing to do but I was told by my husband that I should leave it there as once the owner realised it was missing they would go back to beach to look for it and be pissed off if they knew I had removed it from the spot if was lost!
I'm just so sick of having everything I do questioned when I know deep down I'm doing what's right... What would you do?

I'd take it to the local police station or call police link. No one will be pissed off a decent person picked it up because it means it's safe from thieves. They may also be out of town visitors & far away by now. If it's lost likely they don't know where they lost it.

They probably have tracking on it so might turn up so don't just leave it. They'll probably try to call it. FB pages worth a try but you'll get time wasters. They might post it's lost, tho.

A friend dropped hers in a garden bed. Had no idea she'd lost it until home (3 hours drive away) & someone called her DH. They'd tracked her by him text messaging her & seeing his business name in her lock screen, then mailed it to her. She was VERY grateful as if they'd left it she'd never have seen it again.

I’ve taken phones, wallets and legal documents to the police before.
Leaving them there means someone might pick them up and do the wrong thing with them.

Hand it in to the police station. Did you know you can be caught for being in possession of stolen goods if the owner reports it stolen and they find it with you? So many people don't realise this and hang on to key cards, keys, wallets.

Your husband's idea is stupid though, I would definitely pick something up if I found it but only to drop it at the police station or at least ring and report that you found it and hand it in at a better time.

I've found things at the park before, things like balls, hats, kids toys, the occasional back pack and other miscellaneous stuff - that I'll leave behind because it's generally not that valuable and people usually realise they've left it there and come back for it.

I found a credit card once that I immediately dropped into the associated bank and I've found a few wallets at the shops, I left them at the customer service desks.

If I found a phone at the beach, I would drop it into the police station or maybe a shop if it were near the beach because logically speaking that's the first place I'd check to see if someone handed it in.
I'd never leave something valuable like that though, because someone with a little less integrity would most likely swipe it.
