I have been told not to take the pill as the risk of breast cancer is too great (runs in my family) I have recently tried the depo shot to which I had almost constant bleeding, same thing with the Implant a few years back. The mirena scares the hell out of me, wires hangin out o my vagina!! How much does it hurt and have any women experienced break through bleeding with this method? I'm 2 months past needing a top up depo shot and still suffering from bleeding every week or two. Help!! So sick of it!! Is there anything else I can use apart from diagphragms which are even scarier.......

Depends on where you're at in your life? Do you have children? Are you finished having children? Are you single or married? Or are you on contraception to avoid periods altogether? Is it possible to not use anything and just use condoms? Could you or your partner do something more permanent like tubes tied or vasectomy? It might be worth giving the depo shot another try as I also bleed for about 2 months after my first shot, but I don't bleed at all anymore and I've had about 5 shots now. I don't know what other options you have other than the main 4. I know a girl who donates blood regularly and that helps lesson her periods?
There are no wires hanging out of your vagina with the Mirena :) I quite liked the Nuva ring. It's like a large rubber band that you insert like a tampon and leave in for three weeks, then you take it out for a week and then insert a new one. You can't feel it and your partner can't feel it during sex. It has a very tiny amount of hormone compared to all other contraceptives which won me over.
why don't you just track your ovulation? iv used this successfully on and off for 8 years.... and have friends who have used it exclusively for long periods of time too....
have safe sex for 4/5 months while you write down on a calendar you first day of period...your day of ovulation and your day period ends....
you can buy ovulation kits from woolies... it is a bit more expensive to start as you may need to use a few of them till you start to recognise it for yourself. and its like $25 for 7 sticks...
I now know Im ovulating without even watching the calendar....
a lot of people should be able to tell just by watching their discharge... thats my give away. I also feel twinges in my uterus as I'm more aware of looking out for it. I tend to "feel" my skinniest during ovulation and my thirst gets greater.
your discharge will start and then thicken over a week and within a few days will turn very thin, clear, slimy and no odor at all.... thats a good sign your ovulating of just about to... take the ovulation stick test when you see this to check...
I have a 38 day cycle... so I don't ovulatearound day 14ish i ovulate closer tp day 21... but it varies.
I will never go on contraception again its so so bad for your body. I understand some people need it but tracking ovulation can be a very effective natural way of contraception... and a very healthy form its a shame doctors never mention it as an option :/ like i said though its certainly not for everyone.
partner just uses a condom or we don't have sex for a week/week and a half surrounding ovulation to be on the safe side. we sometimes use the time to have non penetrative sex which helps build intimacy between us too... you cn play a lot surfing that week and I really credit it to keeping intimacy and fiun in our sex life cos its usually the most "full on" sex we have when we barely even have it :P
(your bleeding may regulate more after you give your body time to reconstruct itself after X amount of years of being regulated by drugs.) I know it use to take me about 3 months after coming off being on the pill for 6 months. sometimes id have my period every two weeks for 2 months... the longer I went without drugs the more on cue my body became and the more obvious ovulation became.
I have a positive mirena story. I've had one 4 years, it was put in under anaesthetic. In 4 years I've had not even one drop of blood, no side effects, and have never fallen pregnant. For me, it's fantastic!
Hi. For me the Mirena was the best thing I have ever done!! Was put in under anesthetic and although it took about 6 months for everything to settle down, now I don't have any bleeding at all!! Have had it in for about 3 years. Oh there isn't any wires hanging out of anywhere....
