moving from cot to toddler bed

Looking for opinions on when to move my son into a toddler bed? How long did you keep your children in a cot for and why did you change? Currently my son is 18 months and I dont think I plan on moving him until I feel he is ready, which isnt just yet but I hear of friends/family moving their children 18 months+.
Thanks in advance!

You answered your own query :-)
You should do it when you feel ready and when you think he is ready. There is no right or wrong time frame for these things. It's when mum and bub feel right.
I personally moved mine into toddler beds when they were around 2 years old. This is when I felt ready and believed they too were ready.

My niece has just moved to toddler bed and she was 3. My son I had to move when he was 1 because he learnt how to climb out of it and it was more dangerous to leave him in it. I would have preferred to leave him in the cot until much much later! Do it when you and your child are ready.

whenever your ready, mine moved into it just after 1st birthday, but she climbed out of her cot at 7 and a half months .. wish I had done it sooner it made my life much easier.
but don't pay attention to when others did or do it, just do what you think will work.

We never used a toddler bed my kids went straight from cot to single bed, we bought them a bed for their 2 nd birthday took them out let them pick the bed and new sheets and bed spread cover made a big deal, also bought a railing for the single bed so they wouldn't fall out
