I have split with my husband and I still live in the family home (that we are trying to sell) with the kids that we share.
He came over today to look at the pool that had an issue.
I was not at home.
There should have been no reason for him to go inside the house.
I made a little set up so I would know if he came inside.
Yes he did.
He still knows the door code as I don’t know how to change it and had witnessed him do it years ago and it’s not that easy!
I know if I do get the code changed he will say it’s still his house.
And I would have to tell the kids the code and as they are between 8-11 he could get it out of them.
As I’m typing this I’ve now answered my own question as in I think I just need a security system.. instead of changing the code.
Does anyone know of a WiFi type security system that is easy and doesn’t cost the earth that could somehow tell me if someone entered the house via a message or something like that?
Thanks in advance

If it's just for the doors I would look at the doorbell cameras for each door? That might work out cheaper than a full blown security system.
Do you use a normal lock and key as well as the security code? If yes, change the locks and ensure the kids don’t have a key when they see him. If it’s just the code then find a friend, family member or professional who can help you change it.
If your selling the house is the expense warranted?
You can buy plug in to powerpoint ones from Bunnings or officeworks, they send an alert to your phone and you can also watch from your phone.
We have a similar set up for different reasons. I’d buy one for each entry point. You will be able to take them with you when you move.
Maybe just pretend you have a camera and ask him was there a reason for him to go in the house and see his answer. If he lies just say oh cameras show you did.
Might stop him in future, if this is a short term arrangement.
Is there a massive issue I’d be just came in? Different if he snopped or went through things but if he just went in let it go it’s still his house too and pick your battles yes annoying but don’t sweat on the little things.
It maybe still his house too but does not give him any right to enter if he is not living there. This is hers and the kids personal space and privacy. I'd be getting a professional to change the code. And telling him that he is not to enter he does not live there and he has no reason to be entering inside.
You can get a Arlo system from Bunnings for under $300 it comes with 2 cameras and runs off wifi. We have one and you get the notifications on your mobile if there is any movement detected.
I would be getting the ones from kmart.
My dog suffered a back injury and is now crated when we're now home, I needed to be able to see her or know when she is moving around too much. $79 from kmart and it gives me alerts when she is moving around, you can also rotate it to see around the whole room.
My hubby also got tasked up to guard the covid quarantine hotels for a few weeks and some of his shifts were overnight and I got scared that I could hear my front door gate being opened over night, so I bought one of the camera door bells from bunnings for $99 and got hubby to install it.
It was super easy to install and set up both and gave me piece of mind for the purpose of them both. Plus, yiu can always uninstall and reinstall when you move
