My 6yo always smells like wee!
It has been this way since toilet training. She is SO lazy with wiping (and going in the first place, she will hold it until she's dribbling in her undies) that she constantly smells. We remind her numerous times a day and have been doing so for YEARS but it's not sinking in! We have also explained every time why it is so important to keep her vagina clean and dry.
She does not have any infections but I'm worried she will develop quite a whammy if she doesn't step up and start caring for her personal hygiene soon. She will not allow me to help her -- she has become quite body shy recently. I don't know what else to do!

My daughter was like this until year 4. Nothing we tried worked. We even took her to doctors and pediatricians to no avail. So we had to make her wear pull ups, teena urine pads, and nappy pants to school. Within a year she soon stopped weeing in her pants and learned to wipe better as other kids were starting to notice the smell and then they noticed the bulky pull ups she was teased for it but there was no other option. It did take till year 4, but the good news is they do grow out of this once they notice the impact it has in their hygiene, their social lives, and peers.
Put a pad in her undies and show her how to change it, better option than sending her to school in a nappy to be teased and bullied
I was going to suggest this too
They are also a lot better at hiding the Smell than a nappy
Believe me they get teased in a pad too as they don't hold much urine and they smell more as they seep through. Even the smallest bit of urine leaks out the sides or back. Don't be too quick to think other kids won't notice. They will !
I use pads myself for SBL and they work fine, I even had a little accident on a road trip once and it was fine. As long as she isn't fully weeing it will be OK. They aren't noticeable through normal clothes
For an adult, yes. This is a 6 year old and the pads are noticeable as their pants look chunky. So you gotta go a smaller thinner size and thats unfortunately not the best for urine leaks on young kids
I just use normal thin pads, you wouldn't be able to see them not even on a 6 year old. They work for me
You've gotta wonder how capable a 6 year old would be in terms changing/disposing of sanitary pads though?
And if she won't even wipe after going to the toilet, is she really gonna change a pad? I'd be worried she'd stay in the same pad all day, that would not be healthy nor would it help with the smell issue because pads that have been worn too long start to smell too.
Incontinence? Possibly leaking without realising, I would buy her pads and stop nagging, see if she improves on her own.
So I would see a Dr just to rule out any physical health issues and to make sure her bladder is functioning properly.
I would try and leave incontinence aids until a last resort if there's no physical issues because they can perpetuate the laziness, lack of hygiene issue.
You may need to bathe her morning and night. Urine soaks into the skin, that's what creates the smell. Don't need to use fancy soaps and stuff, just water and a wash cloth is all that's necessary.
Wash her clothes (at least the bottom half) after each wear with an enzyme breaking detergent (biozet is pretty good).
Good luck, I know first hand how frustrating toileting issues can be.
Hi, I work for a company that make undies for exactly this issue, sounds like she may have a slight case of LBL, try and get her to see a continence nurse and in the meantime, Conni kids trackers/ trackers sports undies will soak up the drips and keep her comfortable... shop.conni.com.au/kids
Good luck!
My daughter is like that also, it’s normal so don’t be hard on her. I keep making my daughter have a shower if I notice it and she is slowly getting better with it because she doesn’t want a shower. She will also grow out of it once she is a little bit older. My other daughter was the same. They get so caught up with playing with their friends and all they forget sometimes.
