Late last year my nearly 7 year old learnt about wasps, and obviously the fact that they can sting. He now has a huge fear of them along with any other bugs that crawl or fly.
He has seen a wasp at the toilet at school and is now absolutely terrified of going to the toilet without a teacher and has ended up wetting himself today at school.
Obviously being in grade 2 having a teacher go with him each time is not possible.
We are at a loss of what to do.. we have tried reassuring him that they won't hurt you or go near you if you aren't annoying them. Have even taken him to the museum to learn more about bugs and insects. I feel horrible for him as he will have a meltdown from fear when he sees them :( would love some advice on how we can help him with his fear.

Buy him some aerogard and tell him it will definitely keep everything away from him (That might be a white lie but you're trying to make him confident to use it). Then research wasps and the different kinds you get in your area, what they look like and how many people get stung per year as opposed to something that is more likely to happen to him that he doesn't give a second thought to, like falling off a bike. We have so many wasps here, especially in the warmer months they try and get inside where it's cool and find water. That is likely what the wasp was doing in the toilets. You could also ask the school to put a water bowl under a tree outside so the bees and wasps don't try and find water in the toilets. The type we have here are very placid and don't sting even when accidentally aggravated. Bees on the other hand are savage little bastards. So my advice is to get him to completely trust aerogard to make him feel a bit invincible to bugs, and also to educate so he can learn to stop seeing them as something to be scared of.
