How do I say no to my friend who keeps suggesting our two 8 yo boys have sleep overs when my son really isn’t keen on sleeping at theirs or staying here. The boys are friends but I guess not sleep over friends I suppose?! Is that even a thing? He has had one friend (not from school) stay overnight here and they had a ball. How do I say no without offending my friend and her son?

Just say I’ve asked my son and he says he doesn’t want a sleep over. If that changes I’ll let you know.
It sounds like they are friends because you are friends with the mum, but wouldn’t be that close if you weren’t.
Just be honest. I find feeling sparing excuses more offensive than people being straight up.
"Johnny isn't quite comfortable with the idea of a sleepover yet. Maybe in future but thanks for the lovely idea".
My second eldest just had her first ever sleep over for a bday party. I didn’t want her to go but the mum is lovely and all her friends were going. She was so upset when I said no. I ended up letting go a little and allowing her to go. But I have always said no we are going out, we have plans or sorry my kids don’t do sleep overs. It’s nothing against other people but I just prfer them not to have sleep overs, I am not comfortable with it at all.
