3rd consecutive Mirena

3rd consecutive Mirena

I will be talking to my Doctor, but I wanted to get feedback from more than 1 person.

Contraception....I am due to have my second Mirena removed and will need to consider if I want another one put in. I have enjoyed having no real period, the weight gain is tricky to manage but I get there, I stil get PMS and I have not had to worry about any unplanned pregnancies.

My concern is that after 10years straight with this contraception, should I give my body a break and try something else? I worry I might forget a pill every day but surely with a reminder in my phone I'll get in the habit. I really haven't had much experience with any other forms of contraception, can anyone give me some feedback on what has or hasn't worked for them please?

The amount of levonorgestrel that you get from a mirena is a tiny fraction of what you get in a pill, implant or injection so in actual fact if you were to try something else you wouldn't be giving your body a break at all. If its working and your happy with it go ahead and get another one otherwise the only true way to give your body a break is to have nothing and rely on barrier methods for contraception.

You will be doing more harm then good switching from mirena to other forms of hormonal birth control, and will in fact be doing the opposite of giving your body a break. Only way to give it a break is to stop all hormonal contraception.

Hi I am 57 I have had two Mirena
I had it removed few months ago. Thinking I would have had menopause. To my surprise I am still having a period.
I loved the past 10 years of no fuss and no periods. At least now they are a lot lighter and hopefully will gradually go. One happy lady at my age to have had a few years of no problems after 3 children my tubes tided are horribly heavy periods previous to Mirena ☺
