we have spoken to my parents as they are our most logical and appropriate choice if something were to happen to us. I think it normally works out that custody will be given to the closest family but someone can argue it and prove they are the ones who should have the children. In our case we know everyone agrees my parents are the best option and we know that family wont argue. I would suggest asking the people who you would prefer and then making it clear in a will etc that is who will take them. Sadly wills can be contested but fingers crossed everyone in your situation would know what was best xx
You need to have it written into a will, the public trustee in your state can do this free of charge
agree with what Beck said about wills being contested...I have a notorised hand-written letter with my will (as does hubby) restating who we want to have custody of our kids & why- that way,in the off chance it gets contested, then our opinion & reasoning gets heard & whoever has the final say once we're gone has an understanding of why we selected who we did. hope that helps, good luck :)
Hubby and i have written a will and it states that our children will have shared custody with their grandparents. So his and my parents, they will stay with which ever set is able to care for them. We also made sure we stated very clearly how the children will be cared for such as expenses, as we have life insurance and the house ect and if we both went we would want our kids to be well cared for without putting pressure on the person that has custody of them
you can write a will (which can be contested) or you can have a christening or naming day to allocate god parents, who will receive legal certificates and an understand of their rolls if heaven forbid something happens
