Hi IM's, loving the new web page it's fantastic!!
I am just wanting to get some advice, ideas and experiences from others when it comes to camping :)
Hubby & I want to start taking the kids camping as we use to go camping almost every weekend before having kids. I'm just not sure about camping with babies and also being pregnant. Is it possible to go camping with such small kiddies?? I have no idea what we would need as I'm use to roughing it camping as I did scouts growing up and hubby & I would just take a small tent, a couple sleeping bags, food that can be cooked on an open fire and a big 5L water container and we would just head bush till we found somewhere. Also with me being preg can I still go camping?? I really have no idea lol...
If it is possible to go camping what would we need??
Also where are kid friendly camping places around Victoria?
Would we need a powered camping site?
Would we need to get a camp stove to cook on?
Sorry if this seems silly to others, I just want to be prepared and have everything needed before hand :) thanks.

personally,I wouldn't go whilst pregnant- I did & it was torture :( whilst pregnant, stay close to the creature comforts of home :)
I have 3 boys (10, 8 & 3)...when we camp,we take a tent & do much the same as you guys (we did invest in gas cooktop thing recently which is a god-send at times)- although we take plenty to keep Master 3 happy,he gets too grumpy at the moment if we stay more than one nite. we just go "bush"...
kids adapt easy,do whatever you wish & the children will follow...as for locations, I know NSW has great camping books so no doubt VIC has them too...good luck
I agree with Renee, I would be too anxious to go camping whilst I was pregnant. I live in Qld so not sure of areas to go where you are. Good Luck!
It's really up to you if you feel comfortable going camping whilst pregnant. I could imagine it wouldn't be as easy to be comfortable roughing it. As in what you need when camping with littlies - not much different to what you have described. We have miss 6, mr 4 and mr 1. We take a tent and swags, camping chairs, easy to prepare food (we do sometimes take a gas cooker but don't take food that couldn't be done on a fire), plenty of water, a few of the kids fave toys and books. We also make sure we have tarp or gazebo for shade. We usually just do a weekend away. A god send that we have found is the in car dvd player - for set up / take down of tent we can put the kids in car, put on a dvd and give the kids some food and quickly get it all done (just make sure the batteries are charged unless you are happy to have the car going).
We went camping all the time when our kids were little, under 1yr old we had a portacot in the tent once they were over 1 yr old they had a cot mattress then a blow up mattress. Being pregnant didn't stop us camping either (we had blow up mattresses). We did a road trip to the tip of Australia with a 13yr old 2yr old and 11 mth old and I didn't know at the time, also pregnant just had to be organised, it was great. We had a bar attached to the roof rack so we could attach a kid swing seat to sit the toddler in whilst we set up camp. You enjoy camping so will the kids :-)
