2yr old asking for help at meal times.

Hi Mummas.
Ive got a 2 year old who isn't a fan of feeding himself, he will ask for help and give you the spoon. He's been asking for help more often over the last month or 2. Even at daycare the carers have to feed him otherwise he won't eat. When he started eating proper meals he was very independent and would take the spoon/fork off you. We've tried different metal/plastic forks and spoons. He isn't wasting away (in 95th percentile for weight and height) this morning I refused to help him and he only ate 2 mouthfuls of weetbix.
Any advice would be welcomed.

Only feed him finger foods for a few weeks so he breaks the habit of wanting help. Don't mention or make a fuss about him feeding himself then slowly reintroduce foods that need a fork without any fuss. Then move on to the messier stuff that needs spoons. Try the thick handled cutlery too.

Good luck my four year old still does it.
It's one of those things you only realise once you have a kid goes on much longer than just a baby.
I see 2 parts to this - kids can physically do something, that doesnt mean we can expect them to actually do it independently.
2.When a child asks you to do something they can do, they're saying be close to me, love me, nurture me, and educationally that's called scaffolding, if you do it, they will watch learn and feel secure and eventually feel ready to take over and try.

Any changes in the house? New baby perhaps? Some kids regress when this happens because they see being babyish as getting attention.
