My son is in grade 3 at school. Ever since the first day of prep, he’s been an almost perfect child at school, until now. All of a sudden he’s just changed. Getting into fights at school, running away and hiding from teachers, not listening, disrupting the class. I’m getting phone calls from teachers almost on a daily basis. I’ve had many talks with him and so has his teacher and we’re both sure he’s not being bullied or anything, it’s like he’s decided to be the “class clown” and just thinks it’s funny. How the hell do I deal with this??? I’ve tried reward chart, talking to him, getting angry, taking away privileges etc but nothing is working. His teacher has tried as well. He’s a pretty head strong child! I do have a doctors appointment for him this afternoon to possibly see a psychologist but what do i do in the meantime??? Any help appreciated!!

We had something similar, in the end we figured out it was the layout of the school!
Prep to grade 3 was on one side of the school, grade 3 kids were “top of the junior school” with massive egos and big heads.
The whole of grade 3 was terrible.
Grade 4, they moved to the other side of the school and all of a sudden they were the little kids again, their egos popped and they were “put into place” by the bigger kids and it went back to the way it was!
It wasn’t just our family that had the same experience, there was a heap of us that had the same thing. I can actually remember other parents making comments like “just you wait till they get to the top of the junior school”.
My mum worked in a school with a similar layout and she's always said the exact same thing
What are his grades like? Could be a good sign, he's struggling.
The work could be too hard or too easy. He could be struggling or bored.
