I was looking at my Centrelink income statement this evening, online, and I saw that apparently I have over $7,000 in maintenance income, annually.
I have never received a cent from my former husband for the children, as he works cash in hand so he doesn’t have to pay child support.
Anyone know why Centrelink would have this in my file when it’s not true?

Are you collecting private or through csa
I’m not collecting at ALL. He doesn’t give me anything because technically, he doesn’t earn anything on paper
May want to check he hasn't reported that in his tax return
He doesn’t do a tax return. He has no official income
Are you absolutely sure he hasn't lodged one in the past 22 days, it's tac time right now.
He hasn’t lodged one in the past 7 years!
He’s telling the ATO a big fat lie, he’s earning money and declared that he’s paid you. Ring up CSA, ATO and tell them and then ring up Centre Link and tell them you haven’t received a red cent. Make sure you do a tax return to officialise it.
He doesn’t do tax returns. He has no official income. He works on his partners farm and she pays him cash in hand
I remember you and your story!
Maybe they fiddled the bookkeeping this year and declared income so he gets the $1000 tax refund bonus?
Dob her in to the tax department for paying cash in hand.
Well maybe his Mrs has told him he has to declare his income, I’m a farmers wife trust me you can’t just give someone money every week and not declare where it’s at. My OH can’t just pay me cash in hand and tell the ATO that the money just disappeared. I bet you anything that someone’s being audited. Because if money could just disappear we wouldn’t have to add the cost of my new car to our income like we have.
Potentially with the new STP he’s been caught out and had to report his earnings. By law now all companies must do it.
So when you guys split up you would have had to apply through CSA and either give them a private agreement or opt for CSA collect or they would have cut your Centrelink payments by half or more. It sounds like you told them of a private agreement of $7000. Centrelink doesn't care if he pays that or not, that's on you to do. I strongly advise you switch to CSA collect, even if his income is at zero. My ex had his income at zero for a few years and then got done by the tax department, his prior years incomes got readjusted and he got a debt of over 20 000. If I had a private agreement I would have not got the adjusted amounts.
I rang up Centrelink today and they said that is exactly what has happened, so I got onto CSA and told them and am going to switch over to CSA collect.
Apparently it’s been affecting my family payments for years
I’m sure that I’ve read your previous posts where people have mentioned this to you. When exes are dicks about paying child support never ever go private collection. Make sure you let CSA know that he works for cash in hand at his wife’s farm, even call the ATO and give them the address of the farm/the name of the farm his Mrs name etc all the information you can gather and tell them that your ex receives cash in hand. Watch them get audited and laugh your ass off xx karma will get them eventually just give it a slight hand!
I’m a farmer too! Husband and I pay me (mother and only do 10-20hrs on farm) a small wage and declare it for a variety of reasons as recommended by our accountant. Previously I didn’t actually draw a wage. I wonder if they have done this and declared maintenance to you to help THEIR tax situation. I’d be calling centrelink to tell them and also the tax dept and report her for paying him cash in hand.
