One of my favourite weddings was a beautiful picnic style wedding.
Think favourite park or a friends back yard. Have pre-made ‘picnic baskets’ or boxes that could be cold chicken and salads, or if you have family or friends that cook?
They had lawn games like bocce and giant jenga set up. A variety of seating options from picnic rugs to chairs and tables.
They had tubs of ice that kept beer, wine and soft drinks cold.
It was a beautiful relaxed day and we talk about that day often.

I went to a wood fired oven pizza wedding too. Also very relaxed, beautiful and loads of fun.

Find a venue that has a place for the ceremony as well. Keep guest list low, under 40, and if it's a wedding venue they can even reuse table centrepieces or flowers.
Top tip is to choose what's important to you, whether it's cake, dress, photog, venue, location, rings, honeymoon, music, bridal party outfits, hair and makeup, jewellery, flowers, food, etc spend on your top 3 and budget on the rest and it will seem high quality.

I made my own bouquets. It's very easy with some ribbon from Spotlight and some flowers from the supermarket or cheaper florist. My sister did the same. My friend made delicious cupcakes as a wedding gift and we boxed them up as favours for our guests. Our ceremony was in a local park which was free to use, we just had to let the local council know when and where we were doing it (they had some restrictions on chairs etc being brought in). My dress was a bridesmaid/formal dress that happened to be available in white. We hired suits for hubby and his attendants.

My sister and her husband held their wedding at a local church with a very progressive (female) minister who agreed to marry them despite them not being religious at all - the church was up the road from their chosen reception location, a much-loved pub they frequented, which had a fantastic outdoor section with barbecues they brought in, they made their own food and asked a couple of family members to cook it for them. A friend of theirs is a talented photographer and took their photos for a bargain price and gave them to them digitally so they could choose what to do with them.
