Hello all,
First time poster.
My Son is almost 9, he has started having some body odor, which we handle with a new soap and hygiene routine. As I was against deodorant. Anyway, we needed more support so he is using an organic, non chemical deodorant.
However my queries are, due to the recent escalated change in his body. At what point do we educate boys to clean their penis 'thorougly'.
He is quite a clean child and we have a clean household. So I know he is ok. But I just wondered when would be the right time to educate them on thorough cleaning. Such as pull back and soap wash?
To date, we just wash with water alone and that's been sufficient. I am worried with all of his recent body changes, is it time to make hygiene changes there too?
I am asking as I am a single mum. This is something I have to address with my Son.
Thank you for your time.

I have been pushing this my boys whole life! I’d start that education ASAP.

I've always just told my son to give the general area good scrub in the bath/shower with a wash cloth and shower gel.
If your son can pull foreskin back, remind him to but I wouldn't suggest soap on such a delicate area - water should definitely suffice there.
If he can't pull it back, don't force it!
Started teaching my son around 4?he's 7 now... I'd say ASAP. Definitely should be before now
Just try to reinforce it. "Shower time, don't forget to wash your groin and stuff".
Just explain to him that he needs to pull it back, let the water run over it, do it a couple of time and get him to include a pinch and roll which will help loosen the smegma (that's what my partner suggested).
But no soap, water is enough for the sensitive area. He can use soap or body wash (moogoo is awesome) around his bits, that's fine. I just wouldn't recommend it for the foreskin.
"Non-Chemical deoderant"
Said by someone who doesn't understand the concept of a chemical... water is a chemical.
Do your son a favour and go to science classes
