Hi ladies and gents :)
I have a question about toilet training..
How do I do it?
I believe my 18moth old is ready.. When he's done wees and poos, he comes to me and squeezes his nappy. When he does a poo, he usually goes in private, where no one is watching him.. Like the corner of a room, his bed room or my ensuite. If we are out, he tried to hide his face lol.
So my plan is to put the potty in my ensuite (where I always go to the loo) so that he can see me doing and and hopefully copy.
When he's a bit older, I will try a sticker chart etc for doing poos.. But even though I have a plan, I have no idea what I'm doing.
I'm a first time mum and have never needed help with anything in regards to him before. But this has got my mind boggled lol
Any advice would be great!
Thank you in advance :)

It's good practice to start them sitting on the potty so they learn to get comfortable. This can be done anywhere and some people prefer to do this in front if the tv so the child doesn't get bored or have some books by the potty. You also want to have a nappy off times before training properly. Having nappy free time will help you know how often your child wees. If they are going every 15 minutes it's not worth it. It also gives him a chance to see wee coming out and not be upset about it (due to disposables I see this a lot). Most kids learn to wee on the potty first because that's what they do the most times a day. When you know he's comfortable on the potty you set aside a week where you decide your not going out and everytime you see him look like he needs to go you take him to the potty.
i wrote in a few weeks ago about my 16 month old :)
we just kept going nappy free, when she did poos in the corners shed grab my hand and show me, so id tell her to get her wipes id pick it up and put it in the potty and just kept repeating, poo goes in here in the potty...
she now gets most of her poos in the potty it took about 3 weeks to really catch on, she's only just stared to recognise a pee before she does it and has managed her first wee on the potty yesterday.
just keep encouraging the potty after he does it, i squatted over it a few times a said poo .lol. she comes to the toilet with me and she points at the bowl saying poo now.
i tried to go straight on the toilet and she loved sitting on it till she went when she was one but now won't sit on it so i hd to use the potty. just keep emphasising the words and showing what i is...
make a big deal if he truest to sit on the toilet or potty.
and watch out for little signs like my daughter will stand in one spot for about 30 seconds before she poos so when i noticed that i would just put the potty beside her and say poo in the potty.
good luck x
