My 2 and1/2 yr old boy knows all his colours and can name them straight away, except 80% of the time will say red is blue. Could he be colour blind or should I not be worrying about him getting this wrong?

hi, my little girl was really switched on with everything too, but consistently called purple green, for months, and I was starting to wonder if she really couldn't see it. And then one day she just fixed it herself. So I don't know about your son, but it is possible hes doing that too.
This is perfectly normal at this age and if anything he is above average in knowing his colours!

At that age, not a lot of two & a half year olds know their colours! My DD only knows pink, so I would also suggest your little one is above average in knowing colours for that age. I personally don't believe you have anything to worry about! You have a clever little one.
My 5 year old has been diagnosed with being colour blind, I started to notice at about 3 years of age. I think it'd be a bit early to actually know and just give it time. And it's unlikely to be formally diagnosed until 5 years of age.
My brother is color blind my mum got told when my brother was 5 that it looks like he is color blind and turns out he is now my brother is 19 and when my brother was in year 7 ooverheard the teacher yelling at him for getting a color wrong in class I had to tell the teacher that hewas cocolor blind and the teachers said how would I know and i had to tell the teacher that i was his sister
Colour blindness is inherited through females to males you could check if any men in your family are colour blind. My brother and uncle are for red, brown and green; the other combination is yellow and blue.
I agree you might need to wait a little longer, optometrists have special patterns with hidden numbers to determine if you are or not.
If my brother looks at a tomato bush he can't tell which are ripe red or still green.
You could try something like that.
I'm most likely a carrier so will be looking at my 2 1/2 yr son soon too
