Fear of flying

Hi guys
We have a holiday in Queensland booked for March (we have to go as its for work) and I am absolutely terrified of flying! Im already having panic attacks at night thinking about it! It's my children's first time on a plane and I'm so nervous that I wont be able to keep it together for them!! Im just after recommendations on how to get through this? My mate has told me to get a script for valium, will that work? Ive never had it before!

I had a phernergan last time and it helped. I HATE flying. Having kids there actually helped me though because I found I was forcing myself to be relaxed for their benefit, they loved it but I was dying inside. Once in the air I try and forget I am on a plane, sudoku or the mind puzzles that are on the plane. Keeping your brain busy is the key!

Yep go to the doctor and get some valium or even a couple of wines to relax you if hubby is there to organise the kids and everything

My husband gets Valium and that helps with his flying anxiety

My partner is the same. Absolutely a nightmare for him and I’ve had so many bruised legs, arms where he has gripped me on take off or landing. We had considered Valium and a friend offered me a special cookie instead. Edibles take about 1/2-45 mins to kick in and can last a couple of hours. He had a small piece when we parked at airport and was great the whole flight. Little bit more smiley than normal but completely in control and not whacked out of his brain. Of course I didn’t allow him to drive for 24 hours after but it was so much better than a full on melt down at the airport and bruised legs.
