IM Question.
Hi, although this isn't really mum related I just want some opinions.
My nan passed away 10 days ago and I had 3 days off work that I was supposed to work, I advised 2 managers and 1 supervisor, but that didn't include the HR/payroll manager, on what was happening. I then put on my time sheet 1 day sick leave 2 days bereavement leave which was signed off by my supervisor and work only paid me the sick pay not bereavement. When I questioned it to hr I was told that they don't know my family and I have to PROOVE that it was my immediate family and they'd back pay me next week once i showed them the funeral notice... Has anyone come across anything as stupid as proving that your nan had died??? I'm really really hurt by it and I don't know if its because I'm so sad about my nan and want to yell at them and tell them that she was the most amazing nan anyone could have asked for or is this common? I did payroll for many years and would have never ever ever have asked for this. Maybe if I was a dodgy employee but I had had 1 day annual leave and 1 day sick leave in the 9 months before this since I've worked there.

Firstly im sorry for your loss, and Don't take it personally its compulsory for everyone not just 'dodgy' workers to give evidence why they aren't at work and require payment for not being there, payroll are just doing there job to get all the information its just like when your sick you need a doc certificate for evidence as.your still getting paid same same
It's not personal it's standard practice. Just like drs certificates.
