Weight gain

So last year I was put on a medicine that has the side effect of weight gain
I have done everything to not gain weight, eating right, exercising. But sadly I have put on 20kg.

Every time I look in the mirror I see how big I am. I have stretch marks on my arms and all over my stomach. I’ve gone up two dress sizes.

My partner tells me I’m beautiful and not to worry but I’m a hairdresser and I see myself in the mirror all day. Clients have been commenting on my weight gain and I’m trying so hard to get it move.

I feel so down about myself I don’t feel pretty or attractive anymore just a fat frumpy person :( I have no idea what to do anymore

Yes the doctor is aware of my weight gain but the medicine is helping with my medical condition so they don’t want to change them

The tablets I’m on that are causing the weight gain are for an auto immune disease not like birth control. Without this medicine I wouldn’t be able to move without being in pain constantly

You have to weigh up how important the medical issue is.
I had weight gain with birth control and it was terrible, amd the feeling of depression and failure that you cant shake it -it really doesnt budge.
I had the choice though. For something else i would be adking for an alternative (gps can be quick to dismiss things like this as a non issue but it definitely is one) or if its important focus on whats inproving and just embrace your body as a by product.

I’d find out what in the medicine is causing the weight gain. Is it possible to switch to a similar medication?
Is the weight gain fluid retention or muscular? I’d be speaking to my dr again and asking more questions, including what can you do to counteract the weight gain

Talk to a naturopath or integrative GP about diet, supplements and potentially alternatives to the allopathic medicine
