Hi sisterhood.
After some personal experiences with moving from Sydney to Brisbane.
Sorry this is going to be long..
Hubby and I are in a current financial situation that means, with 4 kids, I'm unable to get a job with my current qualifications (I don't have any, thats the problem) where we would actually benefit from me working due to child care costs of 4 kids. Working would actually put us behind. But after a decade of being a SAHM I need out. We can't afford for me to work, or study, cos it all costs money, that we don't have. And we're struggling financially. But the house prices of Sydney mean we can't afford to downsize our home to reduce costs, because there's nothing cheaper... we can't move out of the proximity to the city (we're 1 1/2 hours away as it is, there's no further to go) because hubbys type of work is only available in city areas. We can't give our children the life we wanted to, even the option of sport on the weekends is touch and go.
But if we sold, and moved to, and bought in Brisbane, we could be completely mortgage free, even closer to the city itself than we are in sydney. We could afford for me to go to uni, or tafe, or even work for my sanity. We could give our kids so many more opportunities simply because we could afford it.
It seems like a no brainer. But our families are here. Our friends are here. I've suffered quite badly with PND since my last baby and i worry how I'd cope without them. Plus every one keeps saying the education and medical isn't as good up there...
So what do I do?
Those who made the move, was it worth It? Did u regret It? Is there really that big of a gap between education and medical? Those who moved back? Why? What made u hate the move? What made u love the move? I feel like I've got a war going on within my head and i don't know what's the best thing for us to do.

I’d say move!! Medically, I’ve found it’s better there. I found studying the same at qld as it was in nsw and if it means your mortgage free... do it.
You can still call and FaceTime friends, and it’s only a flight away. Most flights are $79 each return through Jetstar.
You’ll make new friends, especially working or studying and really, what’s to lose...?? You’ll be gaining much more, your family may even decide in the future to join you!
Remember money doesn’t buy you happiness. If you’re really serious get a value of your property and really research the market you currently live in. Then go up to the area that you want to move to, check out the market check out job vacancies and schools. Sometimes you never know till you try
We moved up 7 years ago and have not looked back! It's way better than Sydney and cleaner! The education and medical is probably better than Syd to be honest! Brisbane has alot more to offer than Sydney in regards to family things and you only have the Gold Coast 45 mins- 1hour away. We don't have any family here and that's been fine. It's only an hours flight to visit. Don't keep drowning in Sydney sell up and make the move! Good luck!
P.S 2 of our kids go to a public school and the standards are very high, they all have their own Ipads and even the uniform standards are high. So def check out the public schools before private as it's not worth the extra money especially if they are in primary. If you want to know more or i can help let me know:)
I moved from South of Sydney to Noosa pre kids 12.5 years ago. We now live on Sunshine coast (10 years)
If you want to work there is work (although the wages are not as high. hospitality is very common to have split shifts)
Hubby and I work for ourselves, most of our work is in Brissy, hubby drives down a few times a week, we hire people in Brissy as the Bruce HWY likes to be a car park often.
The lifestyle is So much better then we had in N.S.W, everyone is friendly
We would never go back
We fly down a few times a year
