I spent 5hrs in the emergency department last night with my 4month old daughter. She had her vaccinations yesterday morning which was fine, she gets them for hers and others safety.
Anyway she woke up screaming in agony, with hives down both legs, i couldnt get her to settle, changed her nappy, tried a bottle, tried her dummy, rocking her etc nothing calmed her down, so i gave her some panadol and neurofen. Tried to take her temp but couldnt get a reading as i was panicking. Called my mum, she told me to call the doctor, so called the gp hotline, was told is completely normal and to just take her to the doctor in the morning.
She just would not stop screaming so i took her to emergency, met hubby there. He helped get the kids inside. By the time i got there she had stopped crying.
Saw the nurse, rash was gone no crying. So i was told shes fine. Didn't get to see a doc till 9pm and only because i broke down in the waiting room crying.
They took us in checked her out again got told shes fine, i broke down again. So they called the mental health crisis number for me to talk to someone to make sure i was ok.
Got home, hubby said i should have filmed it so he could see what was happening. So i dont think he believes me, the hospital didnt beleive me, no one did. Only my mum.
Why cant people just listen. Im her mother i know her, i know that cry was serious. Shes never screamed like that before, she had hives! Hives is a sign of allergic reaction... why cant the believe me..

I know it's so distressing to see our babies like this but hubby's advice is actually a good idea in future, not that it sounds to me like he didn't believe you but sometimes it's easier to show doctors what's happening (while it's happening) than trying to explain it afterwards, so videoing these kind of episodes is often very helpful.
It sucks that the nurses made you feel like they didn't believe you but you do need to remember they have new parents come in frequently for when their babies simply cry or have a cold, so it's not that they don't believe you but they can only deal with symptoms they see present and it sounds like they did the right thing getting you some help too.
All in all, it's over now. Your baby is OK. Try not to dwell on it xx
I spoke to hubby. He did definatly believe me but said i should film ot so we can show the doctors.
I'm glad to hear that ๐
Videoing can be very helpful, I've done that when my sons asthma has flared up to show the doctor because usually once we get to the doctor he's completely back to normal.
I'd have a chat to your gp about it too, my daughter had a local reaction to her 4 year old shots, her whole arm swelled and had a huge raised red lump bigger than an egg around the injection site. So after discussing with our gp, we've decided it's a small risk to take so in future she'll just need to be closely monitored for 24 hours after vaccinations.
All the best, I know how scary it can be!
They can believe you but if they dont see it theres nothing for them to treat. The next step I would take is gp to find out about allergy testing.
Can you take her to your GP and explain what happened? They may do a more thorough check and an allergy test. She could be allergic to egg. Emergency departments can be a little dismissing with stuff like this, they see so many paranoid parents unfortunately if symptoms aren't in their face they write you off as one. Have had it done to me plenty of times. One time there was a broken bone involved and they still sent me home, useless. Nobody knows your child better than you, don't doubt yourself.
Definitely film it. Documentation is not about people disbelieving you, it can show all sorts of things (that you might miss initially).
Why? Because misinformation is peddled hard. No-one will acknowledge that adverse reactions to vaccines occur, and they happen more frequently than anyone wants to know about. And so they called the MH team on you and label you a hysterical mother!?!?! WTF????
Start doing some of your own research, question everything!
Delay the vaccinations, spread them out if you really must do it, and enquire about having them done in a designated hospital for kids who have reactions and possibly need reviving... it is criminal what parents are forced to do because of brainwashing and coercion.
Please please please keep a close eye on bubs, document everything, video her and at the first sign of any problems, take her straight to hospital and donโt leave until you are satisfied she is out of danger! Trust yourself mumma ๐ฆ
