Just wondering if anyone has undergone major dental work, internationally?
I have just spent over 12 months and almost $11,000, getting my teeth, gums and jaw fixed. I was so relieved to have finally finished all the work after being in months of constant pain, a soft food diet for months on end, more procedures and specialist appointments than I can remember and a heck of a lot of tears, frustration and depression. Not to mention a dangerous amount of weight loss. I was so happy my husband and I had a ‘teeth celebration dinner’!
But it hasn’t even been 4 months since completion and I have begun getting a lot of pain again. I went to a different dentist simply because I couldn’t get in to my own for a terrible tooth ache, which he ended up removing. He took X-rays of my mouth and was horrified, and referred me to yet another specialist. They have totally botched the work they’ve done, in fact the work should never have been carried out in the first place. Every single tooth in my upper jaw has irreparable damage and cannot be saved. Most of the bottom teeth are the same. The bone is damaged extensively also. Thankfully for me, the specialist I saw explained that I need to lodge a complaint with the ombudsman and explained to me how to do this, in hopes of getting at least some of my money back (I guess the mental anguish and time off work, I’ll just have to cop). Both he and the dentist believe the work that has been done is grossly negligent and they did not provide me with an adequate standard of care or advice. They’ve actually left me in a worse position than I would have been if I’d had zero work done. I am currently putting together my records and paperwork in order to have my complaint assessed/investigated. To say I am beyond heartbroken is an understatement.
But in the meantime, my teeth are getting worse, and fast. It’s not going to long before my teeth deteriorate so much that I’m in constant tears of pain again. I’m looking at my best options to have the whole lot removed and getting either implants or dentures.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with getting major work like this done overseas? Pro’s/con’s? Locations? Details about your experience?
This broken Mumma desperately needs some advice! 😫

Cons are their standards for qualification and registration (if any) they could be outdated or not even qualified. Secondly is hygiene and sterilisation practices. Thirdly is no option for recourse if unsatisfied.
Then also you book ans pay in advance and youve goneon holiday to get there so if you walk in and its iffy, youre feeling pressured to go with it considering how invested you are.
However I have also heard some have had dentists here say their work is great and the cost is about 1/3. So you would want to do serious research before selecting.
I'm so sorry u had to go thru this but i wouldn't be going o/s to have surgery done, especially in places like Asia....the standards are nowhere near as good as here and hygiene is very poor in alot of places. Try going thru your local public dental hospital. By the sounds of things they may prioritize you so u dont have to wait too long!
