Do I have an eating disorder?

For the past year I have been sick, I’ve lost over 20kg because of it and now I’m extremely underweight. I know this and have been working with my team of specialists, dietitians and GP to gain weight. I’ve been put on high calorie supplement drinks to try and gain weight. I have so far gained 3 kilos relatively quickly and I’m finding I’m getting upset watching the scales increase and I don’t know why. I’m not denying myself food, or have any other signs of an eating disorder. I have previously been a bit overweight before I got sick and wanted to lose weight, and honestly I’m happy with my new thin physique. But everyone around me is telling me my weight is unhealthy and it is now starting to affect my heart which is why I need to gain weight and fast. I don’t know how to over come this feeling, and I’m unsure weather I now have an eating disorder and should speak to someone about it. Everyone is applauding me for my efforts in gaining weight, and I smile and agree, but deep down I feel a sense of unease and anxiety about it. I don’t want to be fat again and the rate I am gaining weight is scaring me.

If the doctors and others around you are telling you it's affecting you and you aren't seeing it, then yes you probably do a an eating disorder or the mentality that you're not as slim as you are thinking. I'd chat to a doctor and go on a mental health care plan and see someone to help you with your anxious feelings.

I don't think any of us can diagnose an eating disorder but you should definitely talk to your doctor about your anxiety!
