PTSD and depression

Hi Everyone

I suffer from PTSD, depression and anxiety. I see professional's for help and on medication but wondering what else I can try to get me out of this big black hole??

Diet, exercise, meditation?? All of the above?.

I have two small children under school age and I'm a SAHM and need to fit in with my husbands work hours (he is very supportive and trying to help but just wanted advice from other who have found something that works)

I just honestly feel like I am in a room and there is a small window with light coming through but the closer I get the further the light is from me, empty and angry is my everyday feeling and I need to just feel better..

My Dr's have me on medication and will be trying others soon but in the meantime I just want some more tips on getting out of the house without feeling like I am going to have a heart attack..

Thanks everyone.

Hi, when i was a real mess with depression, anxiety and stress I was on meds but yes to all of what you said -good food can help give you energy & make your body feel good, we normally eat really badly along with depression & anxiety diet goes out the window so yes attention to that is important. Fresh air and sun can affect you. Get outside every day. Go for a walk, hang a hammock & read a book, getting active will also change your hormones, it produces the happy drug and also gives you more energy. The problem is you dont feel like you can, so you dont & it all gets worse, so yes, try to start your day with some exercise.
And also, starting a class whether its exercise or walking group or cooking workshop, meditation will stimulate your mind, help you feel accomplished and give you a bit of social interaction and chance to make friends.

I found a combination of medication, cognitive behaviour therapy (with a psychologist). I also make sure I exercise and eat relatively healthy. I practice my 'body check' and use my panic attack stop methods.
I find if I'm too far in the hole those things don't work very well, when I get the meds right, then those strategies work brilliantly.
I've been off meds for a very long time now, but have to continue using the strategies to keep me well.

If you see a psychologist ask them about eye movement desensitisation reprocessing. It is one of the best treatments for PTSD, depression, childhood trauma etc etc. I've had it done and it works really well and quickly! Research it! Good luck!!
