Family counselling with young children.

Family counselling with young children.

My 71/2 yo is having a lot of behavioural problems at home, it began when he started kindergarten at 6 and has gradually worsened. He is defiant, very angry, throwing and yelling, massive tantrums and angry outbursts over a simple no. The sibling rivalry is enormous and the disrupt it's causing our family is tremendous. He tells me he is a mean boy, that it's his job to be mean/bad. I am struggling. I am looking into family counselling and wonder if anyone has found this helpful? He is involved in early intervention for speech/developmental delay although is doing incredibly well. Emotionally he is struggling!

Has he been checked for ODD?

Personally I'd be getting all the diagnosis ruled out or in. ASD ODD everything!!!!
Just because they didn't get a diagnosis as a toddler doesn't mean they don't meet criteria today.
I'd also speak to your early intervention team. I would assume there is a psychologist on your child's team I'd talk to them first. They usually have the skills to help with this if you tell them what is going on better still they know your child's profile so can tailor the therapy to your child and family.

Family therapy can be very helpful in certain circumstances but in this case it sounds like it would just confuse
