Childs passport approved without a fathers signature

Hi IMs , just wondering if there are any single mamas that have been through the process of getting a child's passport approved to go on a holiday overseas to visit my family for 3 weeks . I was given a B9 form that needs to be handed in with the filled out child's passport application as there is no contact with the dad he's in prison and has been since my child was born . Does anyone know the process and how likely it will be approved , would they contact the father in prison and ask for his approval ?
I'm not a flight risk and the father is absolutely non existent in our lives just wondering how helpful this B9 form is as its for special circumstances . Guess I'm wondering has anyone been successful with submitting a B9 form and what have been the circumstances?

There's been quite a few posts on here with women in similar situations, it's a shame there's no search tool!

You have a strong case, the best you can do is apply and allow a lot of time for it to be processed - as in a good few months minimum. You potentially could go to court/seek legal advice and I would very much imagine that you would be successful in receiving a passport given the extreme circumstances!!
