Hi IM's
I'm looking for advice on how people fit in exercise in their day when their days don't always follow a standard routine?
I have one baby (14 months old), I work a job 3 days a week that has odd hours (sometimes I'm up at 4am, sometimes I'm at work until 8pm - it can be quite inconsistent). My husband often has client appointments out of normal business hours as well so I couldn't commit to things like team sports etc.
I would like to start exercising again as i'm not feeling like my body is strong and capable anymore, but each activity I come up with I can already see issues with being able to commit to them (i.e. there's a gym class I could go to on a monday, but I will only be able to do that if my husband is home and able to look after the baby etc). For a person struggling to get motivated, these issues make it easy to give up without trying!
I know I'm not the only person in the world with multiple commitments, so how do you fit exercise into your day consistently, and what is it that you do?

I joined a gym and got a PT once a week. I can change my PT time every week if I want to. The gym has a crèche in the mornings. I tend to use the gym rather than classes but I can use the classes if I want to.
If I want to take my son to my PT session we do an outdoor session rather than in the gym.
I bought a half price treadmill on sale, a $40 second hand exercise bike and a cheap set of plastic coated dumbbells. I can work out in the morning or evening, the hardest thing I find about working out at home is focussing on what I'm doing instead of trying to cook dinner while trying to use the bike for example.
I know in my area there's lots of 24hr gyms (there's 2 within walking distance of my house and one a 5 minute drive in the other direction) could this be an option?
Walking is a good option too, when ever you find yourself with a spare hour, strap hubba into the pram and off you go! Even some work out DVDs or YouTube, you can just pop them on when it's convenient!
You don't need to go to a gym! You can workout from home and fit in around any crazy schedule :-) Download some workouts from YouTube, or torrents of Beach Body Programs - they are awesome! There is Insanity Max 30, T25 - so the workouts are only 25 minutes, who can't fit that in! And lots of others from different trainers. You don't need much equipment if any, and you can pick up resistant bands from Kmart for next to nothing, so you are not storing weights at home. Here are some links:

If you really want to do something you will find a way, if not you will find an excuse!
You are on the right track, keep going, and good luck!
