Circumcision

Hi Mummas,

My little boy is booked to get circumcised at the end of the month. He will be 1.

I'm looking for other mums experiences and recommendations for the aftercare - or just any advice in general regarding the procedure.

- cloth or disposable nappies?
- chux cloth or nappy liners?

***this is booked and going ahead so please do not comment your personal opinions on circumcision being barbaric and blah blah blah I'm seeking advice from mums who have had this done****

Thanking you in advance xo

It's really only a few days recovery, I'd recommend disposable nappies and change them very very regularly just to keep the area dry and clean :) Chux cloth and nothing that can stick to it :)

Could buy some gauze from chemist warehouse really cheap for the first few days of nappies if you're worried about sticking.
Can I also say I love your comment on personal opinions! It is absolutely your choice on what happens, we should be here to support one another not condemn everyone for making a decision we might not have (although I fully agree with circumcision)!

I've had 2 boys done, 8 years apart. Both were done within weeks of birth thou, so both were too little to play with it. I hope your little one leaves it alone. The same dr did both boys. His advice differed though between the 2. My first he said just Vaseline on it every nappy change to stop it from sticking. Took about 10 days to fully heal. My youngest, he changed it and said to put paw paw ointment in a folded wipe, and place that over his penis before putting the nappy on like normal. It healed so much quicker with my youngest. Within 4 days ot was good, within 6 fully healed. I'd definitely go with the pawpaw ointment. Buy the tub. Or u'll replace the tube every day. I used disposable nappies no problems

Hi, my son had an operation for undecending testie at 1yr old and the hospital put a huggies wet-dry pull up on him or I could have been a swim nappy, can remember which one now and I just used his normal huggies nappies on him after, the next day his was climbing everything and running everywhere as if nothing happened, you can only go by what the dr who does your boys operation on what nappy will be best.

You will be surprised how resilient they are after such an operation. Mine was closer to 2 and was riding his little 3 wheeler bike the next day. Disposable nappies are best and lots of Vaseline so doesn't stick. And ask for suppository panadol, much easier to administer.

Hi
My son got circumcised today 5 weeks old. This time after care is simply keep it clean and dry and no bath first day.
For my older son who is now 2yrs old, he was 2 weeks when he was circumcised, we were told no bath first day and then salt baths for the week( handful of salt in bath)
They told us to put Vaseline in the nappies to prevent it sticking and we put a dab of betadine in the middle of the plastibel using a cotton tip. All measures that helped healing and prevented infection.
Good luck
Ps. Haters gonna hate xo

Are you against female genital mutilation? The times have changed. Unless for medical reasons, this is unnecessary and extremely painful. Aren't we supposed to protect our children? Sorry, but you have to expect other parents to have concerns. In the future many people will look back on this 'ancient practice' with shame. Why not question it? Is not cleaner, it doesn't 'look better', even if traditional, practices change. We don't want it for girls, why for boys?

Oh my god!!! I am having this done FOR MEDICAL REASONS!!!! I'm so sorry I did not know I had to post every detail of my life to not get abused and judged by you perfect mothers!!!! So because it's for medical reasons am I still a barsbaric witch who wants to mutilate her son????? Seriously you and all the other horrible awful women on here need to have a long hard look st yourselves. You are some bodies role model. No wonder this earth is full of arseholes, they're being raised by ARSEHOLES.

As for your "you have to expect other parents to have concern" comment - actually NO I would expect a decent human being to mind their own business and if you have nothing nice to say or no useful advice for me I would suggest you step away from the keyboard and keep your vicious opinions to yourself!!!

I mean you had to come back here and post anonymously when you could of posted on the Facebook post publicly so everyone could see how much of a vicious judgemental condescending person you are!!!

Do you really think I would want to inflict unnecessary pain and discomfort to my beautiful little boy without a legitimate reason???

I suffer from bad anxiety and i am shitting myself about every aspect of this procedure!!!!

I live 4000kms from any family my partner has walked out and left me and I have to go and go through this ALONE I have enough anxiety about the whole thing without being shamed for it. You should utterly ashamed of yourself.

YES because female mutilation suppresses orgasms and is done with the intent for the woman to not enjoy sex!!! Males is a completely different scenario. As a woman I 10 times over prefer a circumcised penis, so much cleaner and nicer to look at when it comes time to get down and dirty ;) I don't have to worry about what may be lurking lol.

Good on you OP for standing your ground, you get your boy circumcised whether it be for medical OR aesthetic purposes. It is YOUR decision.
