Older relatives

At what point do you stop letting older relatives (i.e. grandparents) look after your kids or take them in their car? Have you had an incident that made you think they didn't have the energy/mental sharpness anymore? How did you break it to them?

If they don't have the mental sharpness to drive my kid they shouldn't be on the road full stop. So we told my grandpa it's time to hang up his licence. It was a hard convo.
If they aren't ready to give up then you just have to start making excuses about why your child can't go with them.

The mother in law stopped watching the kids after she had an accident and broke both of her legs.. she is fine now but I don't think she is well enough to watch the kids on her own

My MIL drinks too much so they have never looked after my kids - and the day my FIL drove with my 2 year old unrestrained in the front seat of his car that was it for me. It was only 200m so he didn't understand why I was upset - we had a disagreement and I pulled rank. Never again!!!
