Hi IM's.
I am in the position of being up for a substantial promotion in the next few months. My concern is that I am about to commence IVF to have my second child. My first child I conceived on my first round. Should I tell my boss now and not go for the promotion? I am planning on having 4 months off once new baby arrives and then return part time which this role would support. I have to return to work due to finances. This promotion will not come up again for a few years as it is a new position. Thanks :)

Go for the promotion. You have no idea if this round of IVF will work (hopefully it works first time though). If you don't go and the round of ivf doesn't work then you may feel regret. If it was me I would definitely go for the promotion...the extra cash will certainly help with the new baby!
I wouldn't this time around. They'd be promoting you to do a job not knowing that as soon as you get what you want you'll be out. I'd feel like I was letting them down.
