Birthday party or not

Hi I MS

When our first dd was born we decided that birthday party's we only going to be the big main ones 1 5 10 13 etc and we have done this with our other children now but a friend of ours has one every year for all their children (3) I think I'm a bit over it, I feel like they only do it for the presents yes they supply a very light lunch/dinner but it by on drinks which I don't mind,
Yes I know we have different plans everyone to there own
What do other people do?

We definitely don't have a party every year and I certainly didn't have a party every year as a child.
We mix it up, have a party for 'big' ones. Some years we will do a special day out (just our little family). Sometimes it's just a special home made dinner (just our little family).
My sisters do the same with there kids, occasionally we will have a family pizza night (early dinner and birthday cake, just the family). But definitely no party, no party games, no party food every year.
Even our parties are pretty low key for this era, we never invite more than 10 kids.

All my daughters friends have had parties each year and they have been light on food and an esky of water and poppers, and the kids have loved them. Its not at all for the presents its for the social and the celebration. Simple is nice.
I have two kids so I will celebrate their birthdays every year, they will be able to choose how either a family big day out, an activity with a few friends or a party with lots.

I grew up having a birthday celebration every year, not necessarily a party as such, most years it was just something small and half the time i didnt even get presents haha not that it worried me....1 or 2 friends having a sleepover or a couple friends for a bbq lunch....nothing to crazy....and i do something every year for my kids, most years just something small, again mainly a celebration rather than a party....but each to their own, everyone is different and really there is no right or wrong way haha

I have a party every year...my kids love looking back on photos and they have a ball at their parties. A lot of people actually don't bring presents but we don't care. I'm sure they aren't doing it for the presents...the party probably would cost more than the gifts they'd get.

We celebrated every year of Primary School with a party. McDonalds, Bowling Alley, Skating Rink, movies, party at the park etc with friends. Year 7 was lunch at a restaurant with 2 friends (was to be 3 but one couldn't make it). After that birthdays were family affairs and alternated between the 3 of us going somewhere nice for dinner and a big family BBQ. The only presents now come from us and the grandparents if they wish to bring one. Sometimes someone else might bring a little $10 gift to the BBQ but it's not expected.

Growing up we were allowed a party every second year, it worked really well for us :) Each year was a buzz kill, especially when there were 3 of us in primary school!

In highschool we had them pretty much every year but that was when the social aspect of school was a lot more important to us.

We always were allowed to pick whatever we wanted for dinner on our actual birthday and had family over if they wanted to come and visit. We always had a special cake though, mum always made sure she found the perfect one to suit our interests at the time!
