Possible Tic?

Hello Ladies,
I have a nearly 9 year old son who has recently developed a 'Tic', well I believe it to be one.
When he was little he used to blink a lot, also nose twitching but he grew out of both before he started school. The last few weeks hes started throat clearing every 3 seconds, sometimes followed by a little noise/squeak, Its kind of hard to explain. He's booked into the doctors but I'd just like to hear from anyone who's children have or are going through the same thing. Was there anything that helped? I know he can't help it but its driving both his Dad and I insane! I try and ignore it most of the time because i dont want to draw attention to it but im finding it really difficult to even be in the same room as him :(

Hi. Im sorry ur going through this it really soes suck. My partners son has a tic/twitch. He also has part adhd/part asd with ocd and a tic. His tic causes him to stutter and he will repeat "ummm" over and over again. He winks one eye and moves his mouth in a wierd way. He taps he food 3 times on his plate/table. He follows tiles in a certain pattern and let me tell u shopping centres are a nightmare with him. We only had him for 3 weeks over xmas and it was bad. His tic is controlled with medication as is his adhd. From my understanding he cant control it and is often unaware of his actions and it can be ao hard to not get annoyed.
At the docs they will get him to see a pead and probably a brain apecialist who will put a contraption on his head to monitor his brainwaves. Perhaps a psychologist or counsellor or a therapist to help find thetrigger for the tics. Good luck :-)

My son used to blink, clench and uncleanch his hand and bang his knees together to the pont of bruising, the dr said it was mild tourettes. I started doing my own research into diet, and found that salicylates in food can cause this. My son loved fruit juice, sultanas, and tomato sauce ( all high in salicylates) and after explaining to him that we were going to stop him having these things for a trial ( he was 5 years old) we noticed such a difference himself that he said he would never have these things again. He is now nearly 15, and has found he can have small amounts of these things sometimes without effect, and no longer knee bangs or has twitches.
