3 year old sleeps by his door?

3 year old sleeps by his door?

So I have a bit of a weird one. My son sleeps by his door. Every single night. For nearly 18 months now. He turns 3 in May.

As soon as we put him to bed he's out and by the door to fall asleep. He never cries never whinges just simply goes to sleep.
I give it an hour and go in and pop him back to bed.
Within half an hour he's back by the door sound asleep. Again no whinging or crying doesn't try to open the door (he can easily open his bedroom door) just goes to sleep?
This could go on all night if I kept going to put him to bed.

I once asked him when I go in there and he's half asleep why he won't sleep in his bed. And he said his room was to dark. So bought a nightlight. He loves it and now won't sleep without it... But still by his door?

Again the other night I asked him why he wouldn't sleep in bed and now he says his bed is to cold. We've tried extra blankets, putting him in warm pyjamas with socks. But he continuously kicks his blankets off and ends up by the door. I don't understand how that couldn't be colder? Lol.

On cold nights I sometimes leave a pillow and blanket there for him because I know that's where he will end up anyway but don't want to encourage it.

Has anyone been through this before? I know he will grow out of it but he wakes up cold and complains his neck is sore all the time. Plus it's way more comfortable in his bed I don't understand it? Doesn't seem be having bad dreams or scared of anything. He just prefers to sleep by his door I guess?

Any suggestions on how we could get him to stay in his bed?

I've not had this experience as my son is only 1, but I'm wondering if his mattress is too soft for him? Maybe he prefers the harder surface? Good luck with it mumma!
