Scared of surgery!!!

Scared of surgery!!!

Hi!
I'm booked in for my gall bladder to be removed next week and I am freaking out! I suppose I am just looking for reassurance and hope to hear others experiences and what they thought about the procedure? I am not looking forward to the surgery at all. I am in constant stress about the idea of getting the sleeping gas! Please help before I lose my mind :-(

Thank you in advance X

The surgery is easy peasy! Much easier than having a baby!

The anaesthetic is nothing to worry about. You are out of it so quick, I remember being rolled into the operating theatre and that's it!

I woke up, had no pain, was able to start eating quite quickly. Took things easy for about a week and that was it.

Surgery was also much nicer by far than the gall bladder attacks.

I had it done there is nothing to it you go to sleep and when you wake up it's done I felt pretty sore for two days then I was fine you will be fine I swear please try to think positively as it is a life saving operation you'd be in all kinds of a mess if you didn't go through with it and I promise it's done so quick with keyhole surgery and minimal scarring ?

I put the surgery off for 8 years for the same reason. Then in August I had a horrible attack which sent me to the ER. They wouldn't let me come home. Surgery was done the next day and I was home the day after that. The surgery isn't as scary as you think and the pain can be easily controlled with painkillers and only lasts a few days. It is keyhole so the cuts are small with internal stitches. It's been nearly 4 months and I have never felt this good. I didn't realise that even when you are not in pain it still effects your body. You will be fine.

Agree, if you don't have it done your liver stops functioning, you go jaundice and start feeling really sick.
Not having the surgery can kill you.
Because I was a public patient I was on a wait list but ended up in emergency because I could no longer eat anything at all without pain, had zero energy and had started to turn yellow. My liver function was diving fast.,
Felt so much better after the op, liver function returned to normal real quick, energy came back, and turned a normal colour!
